In response to the ongoing wildfires and mass evacuations on the Greek island of Rhodes, both Tui and Jet2 have made the difficult decision to cancel flights to the affected area.

Tui has announced that their flight cancellations will extend for the next few days, until the situation in Rhodes stabilizes. Meanwhile, Jet2 has confirmed plans to suspend flights only for Sunday, July 24, 2023.

Jet2 has taken a humanitarian approach to the crisis, with empty planes continuing to fly to Rhodes in order to bring back stranded passengers. The airline expressed their commitment to ensuring customer safety and convenience, offering full refunds and rebooking opportunities for those affected.

As the wildfires have been raging for the past six days, approximately 19,000 people have been evacuated from the island. Both Tui and Jet2 cited the volatile and challenging conditions in the Southern part of Rhodes as their reason for the flight cancellations, acknowledging the impact on local communities.

EasyJet, another airline serving Rhodes, is in the process of contacting customers scheduled to travel to the island within the next six days to discuss their options. Speculation suggests that EasyJet may also follow suit and make flight cancellations, mirroring the decisions taken by Jet2 and Tui in response to the ongoing emergency.

The safety and well-being of passengers and local communities remain the top priority for airlines amidst this devastating situation on the island of Rhodes.
