Two Chicago Restaurants Make Robb Report’s ‘Best New Restaurants in America’ List
Chicago’s culinary scene shines in Robb Report’s latest ranking of the “10 Best New Restaurants in America,” with two local eateries making the prestigious list. This recognition highlights Chicago’s growing reputation as a hub for innovative dining experiences.
Brasero, a vibrant South American restaurant located at 1709 W. Chicago Ave. in West Town, ranks seventh on the list. The restaurant, which opened in February 2024, is celebrated for its authentic connection to Brazilian cuisine, influenced by Chef John Manion’s formative years in Brazil. Featuring a menu that revolves around a massive wood-fired hearth, Brasero offers standout dishes such as grilled Wagyu picanha with chimichurri and a fire-kissed lobster topped with miso-chili-garlic butter.
Meanwhile, Maxwells Trading claims the third spot on the list. Situated at 1516 W. Carroll Ave. in the West Loop, this establishment has also earned a place in the Michelin Guide for 2024. Chefs Erling Wu-Bowr and Chris Jung are noted for their eclectic approach that melds Asian flavors with global cooking techniques. Their innovative menu includes items like pork soup dumplings reimagined as tortellini and a unique bread that combines elements of naan and scallion pancakes, ensuring that taste triumphs over novelty.
The inclusion of these two restaurants in a list that also features four California spots and two from New York— with Restaurant Yuu in Brooklyn taking the top position—underscores the diverse and dynamic nature of America’s culinary landscape. Chicago’s representation by Brasero and Maxwells Trading reflects the city’s ability to offer distinctive and high-quality dining experiences that resonate on a national level.
