United Airlines Cleared by FAA After Safety Audit Shows No Major Issues

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared United Airlines of any significant safety concerns following an enhanced oversight audit launched in March 2024. The audit was initiated after a series of safety incidents involving the airline earlier in the year. According to a statement from the FAA, “The review did not identify any significant safety issues,” as first reported by Reuters.

The FAA’s audit aimed to ensure that United Airlines was fully compliant with safety regulations, effectively identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and maintaining robust safety management practices. During this period, while United was permitted to receive new aircraft, FAA personnel were required to be present during the final inspections of these planes.

The audit followed several incidents involving United Airlines, including a runway excursion at Houston Intercontinental, a Boeing 777-200ER losing a tire during climb-out from San Francisco, and a missing external panel discovered after an aircraft landed. Despite these incidents, there were no reported injuries or casualties.

In addition to the FAA’s review, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of the Inspector General launched a separate audit to assess the FAA’s oversight actions regarding United Airlines.

With the FAA’s clearance, United Airlines has reaffirmed its commitment to safety, continuing its operations without major adjustments. The audit results help bolster confidence in the airline’s safety management systems as it moves forward with new aircraft deliveries and operational procedures.
