United Airlines flew 100 Houston-area high school students to the coastal city of Galveston and back on a “Juneteenth flight” operated by an all-Black crew that aimed to teach them about the importance of the holiday and expose them to the possibility of aviation careers. A crew member gave the students an in-flight history lesson about the holiday, which commemorates the anniversary of Union troops arriving in Galveston to enforce the abolition of slavery.
