United expansion includes remote island in Azores

The huge network expansion United Airlines recently announced includes an unusual new route between Newark, N.J., and Ponta Delgada – Joao Paulo II Airport. It is located in the Azores, a remote Portuguese island chain 900 miles from mainland Europe, and United will be the only airline flying there from New York.
