United halts Starlink Wi-Fi on Embraer 175s over interference issues

United Airlines has temporarily suspended Starlink Wi-Fi service on approximately two dozen Embraer 175 regional jets due to radio interference issues. Since June 7, 2025, these aircraft have been flying without Starlink internet, according to The Points Guy.
The interference reportedly involves static affecting the VHF antennas used by pilots to communicate with air traffic control, which conflicts with signals from the Starlink antennas installed on the aircraft. A United spokesperson explained that such interference is not unusual when introducing new Wi-Fi technology and confirmed that United and Starlink teams are actively addressing the issue.
According to the report, a solution has been identified, and modifications are already being implemented on affected aircraft. Approximately one-third of the impacted Embraer 175s have received the fix so far. United is conducting these updates during regularly scheduled maintenance to avoid taking any aircraft out of service.
The airline expects Starlink Wi-Fi service to be fully restored on the Embraer 175 fleet in the coming weeks. United first announced its Starlink partnership with SpaceX in September 2024, calling it the largest deal of its kind in the airline industry. The collaboration aims to offer high-speed, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi across United’s entire fleet, setting a new standard for in-flight connectivity.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) previously granted Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for installing Starlink on United’s Embraer 175 aircraft on April 1, 2025.
