US airlines transport pandemic-record passengers over holiday

US airlines smoothly transported a pandemic-record number of travelers over the busy Thanksgiving holiday, and “all of them seemed to perform very well over the last ten days or so” with “very few cancellations over the entire ten-day period,” Tom Costello said on the TODAY Show. “The Thanksgiving 2021 travel rush [is] now in the rearview mirror with airlines celebrating their heaviest passenger loads in two years.” Over the entire Thanksgiving travel period, an average of two million passengers traveled each day with a pandemic-record of over 2.4 million passengers screened on Sunday. US airlines “streamlined operations and staffed up” ahead of the busy holiday travel weekend, which saw passenger volume reach approximately 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
