US airlines warn of 5G flight disruptions
“Unless something changes, we will not be able to use radio altimeters at 40-something of the largest airports in the country,” United Airlines head Scott Kirby told the Senate Commerce Committee as he and other airline leaders testified about potential flight disruptions next January if telecom companies roll out new 5G services that could interfere with aircraft safety systems. Airlines for America estimates that if the Federal Aviation Administration’s proposed 5G-related flight restrictions had been in place during 2019, 32 million people would have faced diverted, cancelled or delayed flights.
