US airlines are warning of widespread flight disruptions from new 5G service planned for January 5. The wireless signals near some airports could interfere with aircraft radio altimeters, prohibiting landings in poor visibility and creating delays, diversions and cancellations. Airlines for America estimates that without mitigations, the 5G deployment could disrupt as many as 345,000 passenger flights per year in addition to 5,400 cargo flights.
