Venezuela has suspended all flights to and from Peru from July 31 to August 31, 2024, according to LATAM Airlines Group.

This measure marks the third instance of Venezuela closing its airspace to another country as a diplomatic response. The suspension follows Peru’s refusal to recognize Nicolás Maduro’s controversial re-election for another six-year term.

Venezuela has also restricted air travel with Panama and the Dominican Republic, affecting airlines such as Copa Airlines, SKYhigh Dominicana, Venezolana, Rutaca Airlines, Laser Airlines, Avior Airlines, and Turpial Airlines.

LATAM Airlines Perú was the sole carrier operating flights between Lima and Caracas Simón Bolivar, with two daily services. In response to the airspace closure, LATAM has announced that it will offer changes and refunds to passengers affected by the disruption at no additional cost.
