Vietjet to Expand Fleet with 10 New Airbus A321neo Aircraft by Year-End
Vietjet is set to significantly boost its fleet with the delivery of 10 new aircraft, primarily the Airbus A321neo, by the end of this year. This expansion aligns with the airline’s ambitious plans to increase both domestic and international routes.
Fleet Expansion and Route Growth
Vietjet’s fleet currently comprises over 100 aircraft, including models such as the A320, A321neo, A321neo ACF, and the A330. The addition of 10 new aircraft will support the airline’s expansion into new markets, including Australia, India, China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, and Cambodia, among others.
In addition to expanding its fleet with narrow-body jets, Vietjet has placed a firm order with Airbus for 20 new-generation wide-body A330neo (A330-900) aircraft. This order, valued at $7.4 billion, will further enhance the airline’s capacity to serve long-haul routes.
Pioneering Aircraft and Environmental Efficiency
Vietjet was the first airline to operate the ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) aircraft, which offers a range of innovations such as improved cabin design for optimized seating and space, a 75% reduction in noise, fuel savings of at least 16%, and a 50% decrease in emissions.
Strong Financial Performance
This fleet expansion comes on the heels of a successful first half of 2024 for Vietjet, during which the airline reported consolidated revenue of VND34.016 trillion (US$1.35 billion), marking a 15% year-over-year increase. Vietjet also served 13.1 million passengers and operated 70,154 flights in this period, reflecting the airline’s robust growth trajectory.
With these new aircraft deliveries and continued expansion into new markets, Vietjet is poised to further strengthen its position as a leading carrier in the Asia-Pacific region.
