During Routes Europe 2024, Isle of Man Airport shared insights with Routes about its recent successes in air connectivity and its plans for sustained growth.

Isle of Man Airport (IOM), also known as Ronaldsway Airport, is a civilian airport located on the Isle of Man in the UK. Serving 17 destinations with five airlines, the airport welcomed nearly 650,000 passengers in 2023, marking a 75% recovery compared to pre-pandemic figures.

Strategic Connections and Passenger Growth

With an island population of over 84,000, IOM primarily offers connections to the UK for business travelers and onward journeys for leisure passengers. Additionally, the airport serves popular Spanish destinations such as Lanzarote, Majorca, Malaga, and Tenerife. IOM is targeting growth in point-to-point services for seasonal travel, aiming to expand its reach and increase passenger numbers.

Business Travel Revival

While business travel took a significant hit during the pandemic, IOM celebrated the launch of its new route to Jersey, served by Blue Islands, earlier this year. This route’s success demonstrates the return of business travel following a successful trial period.

Positive Feedback at Routes Europe 2024

Exhibiting at Routes Europe 2024 in Aarhus, Gary Cobb, airport director at Isle of Man Airport, expressed optimism: “We’ve had conversations outside of the formal meetings too with people that we hadn’t even thought of to ask for a meeting with, so it’s been excellent.”

Looking Forward

Isle of Man Airport continues to focus on enhancing its connectivity and service offerings. With strategic planning and a clear vision for growth, IOM aims to maintain its upward trajectory in passenger numbers and route expansions, ensuring it remains a vital hub for both business and leisure travelers.
