Wizz Air Malta receives Air Operator’s Certificate

Wizz Air Malta has been granted its Air Operator’s Certificate by EASA, and an Operating License by the Malta Civil Aviation Directorate. 

Operations for the new subsidiary are set to commence on 27th September, with the first flight taking off from Rome Fiumicino International Airport. Wizz Air recently appointed Diarmuid Ó Conghaile as the Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, who will take up the position in Valetta from the start of November this year.

Wizz Air President, Robert Carey, said: “We are pleased to announce the establishment of Wizz Air Malta, which will provide opportunities to further diversify our operations and drive growth. Malta’s economic and regulatory regime will enable Wizz Air to strengthen its position in the global market.”

Jesper Rasmussen, Flight Standards Director at the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, said: WizzAir Malta exemplifies the increasing pan-European dimension of the airline industry: capitalising on the diversity, technological advancement and potential that the European common aviation market brings. EASA has certified Wizz Air Malta, on behalf of Malta, after scrutinising its full compliance with all applicable safety standards.”
