A woman has been temporarily banned from flying with United Airlines after she allegedly caused a flight to Los Angeles to divert to Phoenix following an argument with flight attendants over wine. The incident, which was captured on video and shared on social media, occurred on July 25 on a flight from Houston.

According to United Airlines, the woman was “disruptive” and “refused to follow the flight attendant’s instructions to return to her seat”. The airline said that law enforcement officials met the aircraft on arrival in Phoenix and removed the passenger. The flight then continued to Los Angeles later in the evening.

“The customer has been barred from future United flights while we review this matter,” the airline said in a statement.

The videos, posted by TikTok user Blake Perkins, showed the woman arguing with other passengers and flight attendants, who accused her of drinking wine before boarding the plane and violating airline rules. The woman also appeared to be upset over an incident with another passenger.

“Sit down,” one of the flight attendants repeatedly screamed at the woman, who continued to talk over him and tried calling his bluff. “Just land,” she can be heard saying while trying to talk about a spat she was having with another passenger.

One of the flight attendants also warned the woman that she would be leaving the airport in handcuffs if she did not sit down.

Perkins, who called the woman “United Airlines Wine Karen”, said that his travel plans were ruined by her behavior.

“Had our entire flight landed because she couldn’t get her wine,” he wrote in one of his captions.
