ASKA A5, the pioneering flying car from Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving official authorization to drive on public roads from the United States Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The eVTOL (electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) vehicle has successfully completed over 300 miles of road testing in Silicon Valley, sporting a DMV number plate.

Chair and COO/cofounder, Maki Kaplinsky, expressed the company’s pride in becoming the first electric flying car developer to conduct successful driving tests on local California roads. The accomplishment validates their commitment to developing a safe and roadable eVTOL aircraft.

Earlier in June 2023, ASKA announced that the A5 secured the Certificate of Authorization (COA) and Special Airworthiness Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The type certification process is underway and making steady progress towards achieving G1 status.

The ASKA A5 impressively combines the convenience of an SUV’s size, with the ability to fold its wings, enabling it to maneuver through regular traffic and share the road with other vehicles. The vehicle’s capabilities include both Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) from helipads and Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) from runways.

In terms of performance, the A5 can accommodate three passengers and travel up to 250 miles at a top speed of 150mph. This remarkable feat positions ASKA as a trailblazer in the world of electric aviation and urban mobility.

The ASKA journey began in 2018, and they began accepting pre-order reservations in 2021, quickly accumulating an impressive $50 million in pre-orders. With their groundbreaking achievements and innovative approach to personal transportation, ASKA is at the forefront of revolutionizing urban mobility and air travel.
